William Blanco May and Dance Partner Hila Hashemi practicing their Rumba routine. Rumba is one of the ballroom dances which occurs in social dance and in international competitions. In this sense, it is the slowest of the five competitive International Latin dances: the paso doble, the samba, the cha-cha and the jive being the others. This ballroom Rumba was derived from a Cuban rhythm and dance called the bolero-son; the international style was derived from studies of dance in Cuba in the pre-revolutionary period.

The ballroom Rumba derives its movements and music from the son, just as do the salsa and mambo. The Peanut Vendor was the first recording of Cuban music to become an international hit: it was incorrectly described on the label as a Rumba, perhaps because the word son would not be understood in English. The label stuck, and a Rumba craze developed through the 1930s. This kind of dance was introduced into dance salons in America and Europe in the 1930s, and was characterized by variable tempo, sometimes nearly twice as fast as the modern ballroom Rumba.

Michael Jackson ‘s Early life and The Jackson 5
wikipedia.org

Michael Jackson was born on August 29, 1958. He was the eighth of ten children in an African-American family who lived in a two-bedroom house in Gary, Indiana.

Michael’s mother, Katherine Esther Scruse, once aspired to be a country and western performer who played clarinet and piano. His father, Joseph Walter “Joe” Jackson, was a former boxer and also performed on guitar with a local R&B band called The Falcons to supplement the family’s household income.

Michael Jackson grew up with three sisters (Rebbie, La Toya, and Janet) and five brothers (Jackie, Tito, Jermaine, Marlon, and Randy). A sixth brother, Marlon’s elder twin Brandon, died shortly after birth.

Michael Jackson had a troubled relationship with his father, Joe. In 2003, Joe acknowledged that he regularly whipped Michael as a boy. Joe was also said to have verbally abused his son, saying that he had a “fat nose” on numerous occasions.

Michael stated that he was physically and emotionally abused during incessant rehearsals, though Michael also credited his father’s strict discipline with playing a large role in his success.

In an interview with Oprah Winfrey, broadcast in February 1993, Michael acknowledged that his youth had been lonely and isolating. Michael’s deep dissatisfaction with his appearance, his nightmares and chronic sleep problems, his tendency to remain hyper-compliant, especially with his father, and to remain childlike throughout his adult life, are consistent with the effects of the maltreatment he endured as a young child.
